When Ursan came out narrowing our already-narrow chance at UW/FoW groups? :P
Some people actually like to go through elite areas and get nice items and use skill at the same time.

Somebody may have already suggested this, but I recently earned the Tyrian Skill Hunter title for my Ranger. It was a great deal of fun hunting down each boss (for me, anyway, others will likely not agree...) and it helped unlock skills for my PvP casters, as well.
The major downside is that it costs 1k per Capture Signet, and there are 90 Elite Tyrian skills in all...

Rangers are actually a rather desired Ursan... in some areas, at least. We have base 100 AR versus elements, after all. However, on a personal level, I certainly agree with you. Before Ursan there was far more strategy and team cohesion in conquering areas, rather than BEAR, One-Two-Three, TOTEM, rinse and repeat.

True but for some reason ppl have always hated rangers in there teams.
It really only changed with Splinter barrage...i remember when it was only Tyria
and Rangers where outcasts everywhere.
Its the reason B/P teams and Trappers was the hot builds for elite area for us.
No one wanted Rangers in there teams so we had to start our own.
One of the reason i love my ranger so much still, only ppl that knew how awesome ranger where was other rangers lol(Everyones starting to fig it out now tho hehe)

Go Barrage + Judges Insight with a Vamp Bow of Deathbane in FoW sometimes.
We did a HM clear last night, the Pargon would spam "Go For The Eyes" and I would hit from the 150's to the very low 200's , not counting splinter the Rit would apply to me, then for caster groups I would end up barraging Warmongers Weapon. I was our main Damage Dealer, we did the clear in a little over 3 hours.
I refuse to Ursan, cause I can make a builds out of whats already there, too bad most others don't see that.

Barrage + Heart of Holy Flame is another good combination against undead. HoHF lasts longer, and doesn't need attribute points in it

Or yet another modification;
volley + heart of the holy flame + any other elite... I usually throw in BHA for cathedral of flames... anything but preps would work

In my eyes, rangers are one of the best classes. I have always welcomed them into a party, and rather enjoy playing one often.

Couldn't have said it better...1st char is a ranger..love him dearly, but after playing a monk, I realized there is so much more profit to be made and more challenging playing solo/duo. Since then, I've started a sin, para, warr, and ele. I just got so bored with ranger, but recently I started back with him doing PvP (RA and AB), and realized that's really where a ranger's strength lies. So fun watching a bleeding (or burning) crippled enemy limping toward you, or interrupting a rez sig, etc. Easy way to get some z-keys, too! Just something fun to break the occassional monotony of PvE.

When I got bored with my Ranger I decided to get the Legendary Cartographer title, then I farmed the Sunspear/Lightbring titles to get some cash. After than I went and started to cap all the Elite Skills using the plat I made from the previous farming. Currently I'm farming the EotN specific titles but I don't know if you have that 'campaign'. When I got bored of any of that I vanquish an area or two for a bit of a difference/challenge.
Another fun thing to do is come up with farming builds to get various Greens and keep doing runs untill you have both a viable build and collected 2 of each Green. Then sell one on and keep the other for yourself, hopefully you'll have made youself some more cash - perhaps enough to afford most things in the game you'll need/want (minus obsidian armour, high-end equipable items and various other uber expensive items).
There are tons of things to do and those are but just a few (mainly focused on gaining max titles but thats just me heh).

Yah until you are Vanquishing in explorables with mobs you need to pull. Then suddenly our longbows become desirable. As for running, I like running with my Ranger. Sure premo D/A builds tend to work better for Droks, but rangers still have pretty good survivability.
I'm a goofy runner. I'm good at staying alive and equally as good at getting lost. I was test running the desert yesterday and kept making wrong turns and ending up in dead ends with mobs of Griffons (which are faster than I remember). I decided to load throw dirt in my running build only so I have just that extra second to self heal and let a speed skill recharge - then i'm outtie.
But I digress. Most of the "what to do next suggestions" here are really good. IMO rangers become much more fun to play the more senior/advanced they get. Don't touch Ranger though (so done). My Mes toys with touch rangers in AB.
